Admissions Overview

South Wilts is a selective Grammar School for girls (SWGS), with responsibility for setting its own testing and admission requirements.  Parents of girls from any area within reasonable travelling distance of SWGS may apply for admission to the school. There are three different stages at which girls can join South Wilts Grammar School (SWGS).

The 11 Plus 

This is for girls aged 10 and 11 who are preparing to leave their primary school and who are hoping to join SWGS in September 2020.

Open Afternoons will take place at the end of June, when staff will be available to answer questions, and tours of the school by pupils will be organised. The Open Afternoons begin at 2pm with an introductory talk and finish at approximately 3.30pm. These afternoons are for girls as well as parents.  Although these afternoons are mainly dedicated to entry into Year 7, those interested in entry into Years 8, 9 and 10 are also welcome to attend.  The Open Afternoons take place on:

Late Entry 

For girls aged between 11 and 16 who are currently at another secondary school and who are hoping to join SWGS.


Sixth Form 

For girls being entered for GCSEs and who are choosing a sixth form centre at which to continue their secondary education.
