Year 7 Assessment

In producing the assessments our model for Year 7 provides a framework for students to progress while also allowing them the room to find their feet and enjoy their learning in their first year at SWGS.  It will prepare them for their GCSE courses, without becoming a 5 year GCSE programme.

Each subject has produced a grid that includes the different skill areas students need to develop, with descriptors for the work anticipated at the end of the year, and beyond, for our very gifted and talented students.  These subject grids provide an overview and guide for the level of work expected of students and are not meant as detailed checklists.

When students join the school we anticipate that all of them will be working ‘Towards I’ for much of the year, with most reaching the I at the end of the year.  Students will use the quality feedback they receive in class to identify their strengths and areas for improvement, which will be complemented by summative assessments.  In the end of year report an individual end of Key Stage 3 target will be set for each subject.  Students reaching a III at the end of Year 9 will be ready to progress onto their GCSE courses successfully.
